The king and queen consort received hundreds of athletes who were a part of Team Great Britain during the last Summer Olympic and Paralympic cycle at a reception held at Buckingham Palace.
Among the guests at the event were Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the Duke of Gloucester. The evening reception was thrown to honor the achievements of the athletes at the Tokyo Games, who, in general, brought home enough trophies to make Britain come out in third place from over a hundred countries that took place in the Olympics competition and second place in the Paralympics.

Following in the spirit and groundwork laid by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, King Charles, 73, and Camilla, 75, welcomed some 200 athletes who participated in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
King Charles and Queen Camilla chatted with the athletes, alongside Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Prince Richard, and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester.
In honor of the upcoming Rememberance Day this month, many of the royals sported red poppy pins, just like Prince William had done during his appearance at the Tusk Conservation Awards on Tuesday, November 1. Rememberance Day is a British tradition that honors those who lost their lives in war.
The reason Anne, the Princess Royal, graced the event was because of her special connection to the teams and as president of the British Olympic Association. The King’s youngest sibling Prince Edward attended in his capacity as patron for the British Paralympic Association.
But for the Princess Royal, sports is something she’s passionate about, and she has actually competed at the Olympics, riding in the equestrian discipline of three-day eventing at the Montreal Summer Olympics in 1976.
Notable athletes in attendance were drivers Tom Daley and Matty Lee, who earned gold medals for taking first place in the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform event in Tokyo.
