King Charles’ First Big Changes Could Keep Prince Harry At Arms Length

King Charles’ First Big Changes Could Keep Prince Harry At Arms LengthWell, you can’t say that King Charles the III doesn’t move fast. In his first speech to the United Kingdom, just a mere hours after becoming King, he created Prince William and Catherine the Prince and Princess of Wales. He also hinted that Harry and his wife Meghan have chosen to continue their work “overseas”.

Even though this must come as a welcome news to the Sussex couple who already reside in California, US, it’s understood that they’re adamant that their children should receive the same titles as his brother Prince William’s children.

King Charles Wants To Bar Non-working Royals From Being Counsellors Of State

One of King Charles’ upcoming decisions could push Harry further away from the royal family.

Harry and his family currently live in a $14 million mansion located in the secure neighborhood of Montecito California, which is home to so many A-list celebrities. However, Harry still renews his lease on Frogmore Cottage, his home in the UK, two years after he officially stepped down as a senior member of the Royal Family, alongside his wife Meghan. Many view his decision to keep the home, which he received as a gift from the late Queen in 2019, as meaning that he still wants to retain ties with the Monarchy.

But King Charles is already drafting plans to strip him, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice of their counsellors of state duties. This is seen as the King’s first step towards slimming down the monarchy.

To do this, he would have to amend the 1937 Regency Act, making changes that would bar non-working royals from serving as counsellors of state.

What’s A Counsellor Of State And How Will That Affect Harry’s Role In the Royal Family?

A counsellor of state is a position created for senior royals, which gives them the right to lawfully takeover for a monarch whenever he/she is indisposed. This will allow the person to take over key royal duties.

The current Act makes it possible for the spouse of a monarch or the next four adults in line to the throne to hold the position of counsellors of state.

This means that should Charles fall ill, the burden of duty will have to fall on his wife Camilla first, followed by each of the four counsellors of state.

However, to prevent non-working royals from holding the position of counsellor of state, King Charles wants to add a clause to the document.

Despite the fact that Harry voluntarily left the Royal Family, sources believe it will further infuriate him against his father.
