Royal family headlines have turned the spotlight on Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir. And the Duke of Sussex definitely didn’t spare any of his royal relatives. For instance, King Charles sadistically joked about Harry’s heritage, alleges Meghan Markle’s husband.
Find out what else Harry shared about his dad. And learn what the Duke of Sussex revealed about his brother Prince William and stepmother Camilla Parker Bowles. Get all the details below.
King Charles – Makes ‘Sadistic’ Jokes About Prince Harry’s ‘Real’ Father
Prince Harry uses part of his new tell-all memoir to discuss his relationship with his father King Charles. And in one shocking section, the Duke of Sussex, 38, claims Charles behaved in a cruel way by joking about his son’s father. The allegations link to rumors that his mother, the late Princess Diana, and her former lover, Major James Hewitt, were Harry’s biological parents, noted Page Six.
However, beyond all the public gossip, Harry claims that Charles seemed to take joy in commenting on those rumors. For instance, Harry wrote in his memoir, “Pa liked telling stories, and this was one of the best in his repertoire. He’d always end with a burst of philosophizing. Who knows if I’m really the Prince of Wales? Who knows if I’m even your real father?”
And Harry recalls his father laughing. But the Duke of Sussex adds in his memoir, “He’d laugh and laugh, though it was a remarkably unfunny joke, given the rumor circulating just then that my actual father was one of Mummy’s former lovers: Major James Hewitt. One cause of this rumor was Major Hewitt’s flaming ginger hair,” admitted Harry. “But another cause was sadism.” And Harry claimed that his father relished making so-called “sadistic” jokes at his son’s expense.
Tabloids Love Jokes About Harry’s Actual Dad!
However, the Duke of Sussex also claims that King Charles never discussed the Hewitt gossip directly with his son. But Harry did claim that tabloids adored the theory that someone else fathered him. And he wrote, “Maybe it made them feel better about their lives that a young prince’s life was laugh-able. Never mind that my mother didn’t meet Major Hewitt until long after I was born,” Harry pointed out.

But the Duke of Sussex also takes aim at his stepmother, Camilla Parker Bowles, and his older brother, William. And seemingly with no desire to mend the fractures in his relationships, Harry claims that William hit him when they battled over Harry’s now-wife, Meghan Markle. The Duke of Sussex also alleges that he and William teamed up to plead with Charles not to tie the knot with Camilla.
However, Harry avoids too much detail about his mother’s five-year affair with Hewitt. The two met at a 1986 dinner party. And Hewitt sparked a backlash for trying to sell love letters from Princess Diana. In a co-authored book, Princess In Love, Hewitt recalls hiding in car trunks to go to Kensington Palace for his affair.
