Prince Harry may have left the Royal Family in 2020, but he is still engaged in a battle with the Home Office to update the kind of security he and his family are entitled to while they’re in the UK.
Earlier this month, news emerged that King Charles is increasing the pressure on Andrew to vacate Royal Lodge – a 30-room property standing on Windsor grounds – for the more modest Frogmore Cottage.
They say maintenance costs is mainly King Charles’ reason for asking Andrew to move, but royal author Tom Quinn believes there’s another reason for it.
Tom Quinn Says Forcing Prince Andrew To Vacate Royal Lodge Sends A Message
Last year, mere days following the publication of ‘Spare,’ it was announced that the Sussexes have been told to vacate their only UK property. Shortly after, we learned that the King has offered the recently renovated Frogmore Cottage to Prince Andrew.
However, Andrew reportedly did not want to budge from Royal Lodge, where he raised his two daughters and now lives with his ex-wife, despite the property coming with a hefty annual maintenance cost
.
Speaking on this, royal expert and author Tom Quinn told the Mirror: “For King Charles, forcing Andrew to move to Frogmore solves several problems at once it sends a message to Harry that, as a private citizen and no longer a working royal he will never be allowed back to Frogmore.”
He continued: “It sends a message to Andrew that having disgraced himself, he can no longer expect to live in the grand style. And, finally, it means that a suitably grand residence can be made ready for the royals who really matter, William and Kate. Charles is determined that Royal Lodge is the only residence on the royal estate at Windsor that is big enough and regal enough for his heir.”
Apart from maintenance costs, King Charles is also known to foot the impressive costs required to keep a round-the-clock security on the property. This is something he reportedly does not want to do anymore.
“The King’s kindness is not without limit and there is a very good option for Andrew to move into Frogmore Cottage, recently vacated by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which also has the benefit of being within the Windsor Castle security cordon, hence reducing the need for alternative round-the-clock security for Royal Lodge,” a royal expert told the Times.

Good luck with that, until he’s cut off financially Andrew will never move.
