King Charles USA Trip Lands Like A Ton Of Lead Weights?

Our Opinion: As the King heads stateside, we're asking if this 'special relationship' is actually just a one-way street.

This week, Buckingham Palace officially confirmed that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will undertake a state visit to the USA.

It’s all smiles and happiness in The Firm, as apparently it’s part of the 250th anniversary of American independence celebrations.

However, the news landed like a ton of lead weights on some royal family followers. Read on to find out more.

First Visit As The Monarch

King Charles hasn’t been on a state visit to America yet. So, it’s a first for him. However, if it was part of a Britain’s Got Talent audition, for sure, Simon Cowell would say “It’s a NO from me!” Actually, royal watchers hardly see it as a victory lap for the aging monarch.

Why is that? Well, for starters, the timing raises eyebrows because of recent tensions between the Trump administration and the UK government. Of course, that came after the war started in Iran.

Remember, Trump quipped about Starmer being no “Winston Churchill.” And, other public comments really annoyed the average citizen in the country.

Not Done On Whim

Notably, King Charles didn’t just wake up one day and decide out of the blue that he should fly the flag stateside. In fact, it takes tons of planning and involves the Foreign Office. Usually, the monarch travels at the request of the government to bolster bilateral relations.

As they bang on about a “special relationship,” critics argue that the UK seems to demean itself. Mainly, that’s because King Charles visits the US at a time when diplomatic relationships seem very one-sided. Maybe that’s what makes them so “special,” said nobody ever.

The Sussex Factor

Of course, it wouldn’t be a royal story without the Sussex factor. Speculation already swirls around the press making a song and dance out of a flogged donkey. Keen as mustard for a reunion pic, no doubt the paparazzi already polish their lenses.

Apart from that, perhaps the people who live in Bermuda are beside themselves with joy. After all, King Charles and Queen Camilla will follow their US visit with a trip to the beautiful destination. That’s another first for him as a monarch. Clearly, the trip will put the world to rights.

Viewers React

When The Royal Family Channel shared the news on YouTube, plenty of people revealed their unhappiness. One of them penned, “Absolute disgrace. The USA has alienated the world.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • This should not be happening … he calls us cowards then the King goes to visit … that’s just wrong!
  • Inappropriate and disrespectful time for the government to allow this trip to go ahead. I wish UK politicians would stop believing in this ‘special relationship’.
  • The UK needs the US more than the other way round. Just stop demeaning yourselves.
  • Absolutely despicable that the King is going to the US!
