Ostensibly, the greatest reason for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from their royal duties was out of a desire to protect their family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made repeated remarks prior to stepping down as senior members of the British Royal family that they needed privacy and that they wanted to protect themselves and little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor from the horrors of the paparazzi with their camera clicks and flashes. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to retreat from the public eye and the incessant badgering of the media.
At least, that’s what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told the British and American public. However, many called “B.S.” on the formerly Royal couple’s remarks, and now Lady Colin Campbell has joined their number. Lady Colin Campbell is a Jamaican born British national who is also known by fans as “Lady C.” Lady Colin Campbell has written four books on the British Royal family and thus is believed to have a great deal of insider knowledge.
In an interview, Lady Colin Campbell stated flatly that “every fool” knows that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t go through the process that has become known as “Megxit” out of a need for privacy. As others have written, and which Lady Colin Campbell now apparently agrees with, “Megxit” had to happen if Meghan Markle was to pursue her own political ambitions. Indeed, some even claim that Meghan Markle has placed her sight on the White House.
Of course, this would place Meghan at odds with the United States Constitution. While marrying Prince Harry may have given Meghan an immense boost in fame, the fact that she has Royal titles from a foreign nation could preclude her from running for the highest office in the U.S.A.
In fact, there is a provision in the U.S. Constitution that interferes with Meghan’s political hopes (if indeed she’s ever seriously planned on running for the presidency). That provision which Meghan can’t ignore states in part, “no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State.”
Voila. That means Meghan would have to renounce all titles she’s received due to her marriage to Prince Harry. Moreover, some constitutional authorities believe that Meghan could not become a citizen of the U.K. and also become president of the United States.
Regardless of any ambitions for the Presidency that Meghan Markle might have, Lady Colin Campbell has a point. Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have behaved in an incredibly hypocritical fashion. The actions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have put the lie to the claim that all they really want is privacy.

Anyone who has paid attention since Prince Harry and Meghan left the U.K. has seen the couple do everything in their power to push their faces into the American media. From hiring major PR firms to landing major contracts with one of the world’s leading speaking agencies, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren’t exactly hiding away and seeking a life of solitude.
Meghan Markle has gotten very political very fast. She’s been getting tons of press regarding her public support of the Black Lives Matter organization, her support of the #StopHateForProfit campaign against Facebook, and more. Prince Harry for his part has been supporting Meghan and dishing out political messages in any and all platforms wherein he’s been invited to speak.
No, Lady Colin Campbell is quite right. Meghan and Harry’s actions are not those of people afraid of the camera, of reporters, or even of paparazzi. Harry and Meghan’s actions are actually those either of serious attention hounds or those with an agenda … but they are not those of people dying to retreat from the eyes of the public.
