Did Netflix throw a boatload of money at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in exchange for access to the Royal Family? That’s the rumor flying around and it should scare the pants off of Harry’s relatives.
The news came last week that the streaming giant gave the couple, who have never produced a thing in their lives, a production deal worth up to $150 million. What in the world do they have that’s worth that much?
Not their smarmy ideas about changing the world to suit their ideals and not their hypocrisy about environmentally friendly travel. There is only one thing they have to their names that is worth anything and that is their connection to The Firm.

That’s why it took so long for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to get a job doing something other than waving and preening. Forget about their so-called speaking gig—they themselves have pretty much called it dead in the water. They did so claiming the after-dinner circuit is dead but the fact is that no one anywhere in the world stepped up to pay one dime to hear them babble on.
But now Netflix has given them a deal. According to CEO Reed Hastings, the couple is, “smart, they were shopping it around across all the major companies, and I think we really put together the best complete package.”
But what he says and what they say aren’t the same. Already trouble in paradise? That and it seems likely that they were signed not on their own merit but for something entirely different.

This is what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had to say about their undeserved deal, “Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”
But Hastings had another idea about what the Markle’s would be doing: “It’s going to be epic entertainment. We’re going to do a wide range of entertainment with them. I can’t tell you any more than that about it at this point, but I think it will be some of the most exciting, most viewed content next year.”
So how exactly does informative, inspirational, family, hopey-changey stuff translate into exciting and epic entertainment? It doesn’t.
Clearly the Markle’s and Netflix are on different pages. Netflix representing culturally enlightening content is about as funny as saying Harry and Meghan deserve millions of dollars to make movies people want to see.
