Meghan Markle Gets Slammed For Cradling Her Baby Bump

On Monday night, Meghan Markle made a surprise solo appearance at the British Fashion Awards. The Duchess of Sussex presented the British Womenswear Designer of the Year award to Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy, who also made her now-iconic wedding dress.

“As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear. Sometimes it’s very personal, sometimes it’s emotional. But for me this connection is rooted in, really, being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women,” Meghan Markle stated in her opening speech.

The 37-year-old royal, who is expecting her first child with Prince Harry, turned heads wearing a sleek one-shouldered black gown by Givenchy. She kept her hair in a neat bun and completed the look with gold shoes and chunky gold bracelets. Fashion critics observed how she bravely broke royal protocols once again by wearing dark-colored nails.

But it wasn’t just her fashion choices that are getting attention. The Duchess of Sussex, who is currently around six months pregnant, is getting ire for the way she’s been showing off her growing baby bump.

During her British Fashion Awards appearance, Meghan stepped out on stage cradling her belly and rubbing it several times during her speech. As reported by Today, some netizens got “upset” about Meghan’s proud mommy-to-be moment as they took it to be a bit inappropriate.

“Seriously, no pregnant woman poses for photos like this. Ever. She’s such an actress,” a royal observer wrote on Twitter.

“When will Meghan ‘Duchess of Sussex’ stop constantly cradling her bump! Like the whole bloody world doesn’t know she’s pregnant and it’s not like she doesn’t get enough attention she craves. ‘I’m here to give an award but il make sure the attention is on me, not the winner,’” commented another.

Monday night’s outing wasn’t the first time for Meghan to be photographed cradling her precious bump. During her royal trip to Australia with Prince Harry, just a few days after announcing her pregnancy, the former Hollywood star was also pictured caressing her belly on several instances. As Kensington Palace previously confirmed, Prince Harry and Meghan are expecting their baby sometime in spring.
