Many people are wondering why Meghan Markle couldn’t have just launched her lifestyle company as Meghan Markle, like in the good old days when she ran The Tig and all.
Well, it comes as no surprise that the “Duchess of Sussex” title gives her new brand a nice ring and elevates her status from the common celebrity, but it’s come with a lot of criticisms.
Despite stepping down as a senior member of the Royal Family and promising to move on from the royal drama, this new era Meghan is still trading off her title, and royalists want her to stop.
Meghan Markle “Criticised” For Selling Products With Her Title
On Thursday, hours before Prince William and Harry were set to speak at the Diana Legacy Award event in London, Meghan Markle launched her lifestyle company as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Sources say the company – aptly named American Riviera Orchard in honor of their Santa Barbara home – has been a year in the making and Meghan tried her best to incorporate all the things that are close to her heart.
Speaking to GB News about the newly launched company, Michael Cole said: “Let’s call this what it is, it is home shopping, wearing a royal coronet. When the late Queen was alive, any member of the family seeking to exploit their royal status for monetary gain was highly criticised.”
He continued, counting off the royals who have been prevented from monetizing their titles: “Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh had to give up her PR business, Peter Philips the son of Princess Anne gave up advertising milk in China and, laughably, when Prince Michael of Kent opened the Happy Eater on the A3 near Guildford they were laughed out of court.”
“But this, of course, is being sold very much as Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. You will remember that when she became engaged to Prince Harry, she dropped her social influencing blog, which was called The Tig. Well, essentially this is a revival of it to sell products.”
He added: “American Riviera is a trademark that they’re seeking to register. American Riviera is that part of the coastline in County Santa Barbara, where they live on the their Californian Camelot, on the hilltop at Montecito. So they’re out there flogging product, such as expensive jam and essential things like napkin rings.”
Meghan’s brand will reportedly focus on home, garden, food, and general lifestyle content.
Cole said: “We all need plenty of those, don’t we? So they’re going out to make money out of their royal status.”
The brand will also sell a variety of kitchenware as evidenced by Meghan cooking in the kitchen in the launch video.

am sick and tired of hearing and seeing about Meghan and her life it isn’t that I go looking for it It appears everywhere I will not buy anything she advertises . There is so much more to enjoy everywhere. Wish I could block anything to do with her pictures or articles.
I am right there with you. She is ALWAYS trying to one up the Royal Family. Quite frankly I find her to be an media attention seeking where. Used to like seeing what was going on with Prince Harry and now he seems to be a shell of his former self. –King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales well wishes to the both of you from many of us from across the pond. We care.
