The Hollywood dream is not coming easy for one Meghan Markle, or should I say, is no longer coming easy for one Meghan Markle.
Following their astounding success with Netflix’s ‘Harry and Meghan,’ the former actress is yet to find much success elsewhere. Her latest try has not only been trashed by critics, but has been panned by fans.
Critics Weigh In On Why Meghan Markle’s New Film Failed
Meghan Markle has added another flop to her belt, and this time, she’s fallen so low as to be beaten by a homemade compilation of cat videos.
The newest project, poignantly titled ‘Cookie Queens’ follows four determined young girls on a mission to become the next biggest American Girl Scouts’ cookie sellers. Prior to the release, Meghan teased it as “irresistible,” but if its opening weekend numbers are anything to go by, it was perfectly “resistible.”
‘Cookie Queens’ opened across 446 movie cinemas across the US, managing to bring in just $327,797 – the figure has been described as a “pretty pitiful return” in an article published by The Times.
Critics have slammed the project as lacking heart and any kind of emotional depth. Variety in particular labelled the Archewell Productions film as “too much of a reality-show ramble.”
Critic Owen Gleiberman focused on the film’s lack of a meaningful driving theme, writing, “Cookie Queens is a movie about precocious American girls learning to work the system, not fight it.”
He added: “The movie unfolds entirely in the present and never gives you even a fleeting sense of the past, of how Girl Scout Cookies rose in prominence to become the phenomenon they are today.”
At present, no one knows when the film will be heading to the UK. It’s also not known how much it cost to make the project, though the film’s distributor Roadside Attractions believes that niche documentaries like this usually enjoy a longer shelf life than most other projects.
However, on the other hand, Meghan’s movie is being outperformed by a compilation of cat videos. Titled Cat Video Fest 2026, the film has a runtime of 70 minutes and is a compilation of internet cat clips.
Even though it was released in nearly half the cinemas as ‘Cookie Queens’ – 255 screens – the low budget feline project clearly outperformed Meghan’s to bring in half a million dollars.
