British royal family news reveals that Meghan Markle’s new podcast isn’t a success. Neither was her old one and now that the ratings are out, experts wonder how many chances the Duchess of UnSussexful is going to get to get it right.
The struggle is real, with social media and industry pros devaluing her effort, especially her interview style.
Meghan is a Non-Successful Entity
The first of the Discount Duchess’ podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, dropped on Tuesday, April 8 at the Lemonada stand.
The failed podcast comes on the heels of Meghan’s “luxury food brand” As Ever, which debuted in March accompanied by a Netflix cooking show titled With Love, Meghan.
How poorly did the podcast do? According to the Daily Mail, three days after its release of “Meghan’s new podcast was number 19 on Spotify’s general Top Podcasts chart in the US.
Compare this to Archetypes ranking at number one in podcasts in the US in 2022. Numbers don’t lie.
Numbers Don’t Lie
The Temu Royals departed Spotify in 2023, and a top Spotify executive called “f***ing grifters” presumably for their lack of, well, anything of value.
To show how untouchable those fiery words are, the Markles didn’t sue.
The couple had a reported $20 million deal with the streamer and at the time Spotify and Archewell Audio released a joint statement with the usual bland verbiage about mutually agreeing “part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”
Bill Simmons Is a Legend
After the parting, Bill Simmons, Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetization at Spotify, called the Diaster Tourists ‘f***ing grifters.’
In contrast, Meghan is hoping to reach a different audience with her Confessions of a Female Founder series. The mission is to deliver “advice and insights from a number of successful women who started their own companies.” Like Meghan. Crickets.
After the debut the podcast came in for “a plethora of critical reviews, condemning it for giving ‘vapid lessons in self-love’ and being an ‘ego-fluffing conversation.’
Additionally, Confessions of a Female Founder got just one star in The Times with its columnist James Marriott ‘seized by an urge to beat my head against the wall.’
The Irish Times reviewer Laura Slattery called Meghan’s party a ‘mutual love-in’ of a ‘multimillionaire and a duchess who want credit for daring to love themselves.’
The Telegraph, Standard, and Guardian gave Meghan and the memorable line: “inane stream of mindless aphorisms’ and ‘stomach-turning.’
