Operation Unicorn Outlines What Happens Next After Death of Queen ElizabethBritish royal family news reveals that Britain will now begin a ten day period of official mourning after the death today of 96-year old Queen Elizabeth II. Her eldest son Prince Charles, 73, is now the king but royal protocol means that he will be proclaimed the new monarch the day after the Queen’s death.

Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth Is Dead

It was previously reported that “Operation London Bridge” was the name given to the plan which would unfold after the queen’s death. But because Her Majesty died in Scotland at Balmoral, rather than in London or Windsor, the plan is now known as Operation Unicorn.

Now, “preparations get under way for the funeral, the accession process for a new head of state begins immediately. This will take place at a meeting of the Accession Council, which usually gathers at St James’s Palace in London. The codename for King Charles’s accession to the throne is Operation Spring Tide.”

According to the Daily Mail, “Operation London Bridge that were first hatched in the 1960s.”

The outlet reports that, “The Scottish Parliament will be suspended, with Her Majesty’s body expected to first be taken to Edinburgh on the Royal Train to lie at rest in the Palace of Holyroodhouse, before her coffin is carried up the Royal Mile to St Giles’s Cathedral for a service of reception.”

The coffin will then travel by air or rail, and be met by a reception committee of the Prime Minister and members of her Cabinet upon its arrival in London.

Next, “there will be eight further eight further days of the official period of mourning that will end with her funeral at Westminster Abbey.”

Royal Family News: Operation London Bridge

Yesterday the queen’s family rushed to be by her side at Balmoral, including disgraced royal runaway Prince Harry who happened to be in the UK away from his California home. He was unable to say a final goodbye to the woman who raised him, a woman he scorned publicly after leaving the monarchy with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020.

Queen Elizabeth is survived by four children, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
