Other Royals Besides Prince Harry Who Have Been In Trouble With the Law

Other Royals Besides Prince Harry Who Have Been In Trouble With the Law
British royal family news reveals that Prince Harry has had his share of sour headlines, both before and after his marriage to Z-lister Meghan Markle.

There was the time he was photographed romping naked in Las Vegas, the time he thought it would be fun to dress as Hitler for Halloween, and more recently, has engaged in atrocious behavior toward the family who cared for him after the death of his mother Diana in 1997.

Harry is not the only UK royal to be dragged through the media—his mother, his father King Charles, his grandfather Prince Philip, and his first wife have all been crucified in the press for one reason or another.

But the UK monarchy is not the only one to be beset by bad PR. Here are some of the other European royals who have been roasted for their bad behavior.

Prince Laurent Of Belgium’s Corruption Scandal

In 2006, flashy Prince Laurent of Belgium was investigated for corruption. He was a known big spender who loved expensive watches, clothes, and cars.

Eventually authorities looked into how he could afford his lavish lifestyle, given that he, like most royals, was not gainfully employed.

In the end Laurent was accused of stealing Belgian naval funds to support his lifestyle. He appeared in court and testified that the money that he used to upgrade his expensive villa was not stolen and everyone accepted his word.

But his parents, King Albert II and Queen Paola of Belgium, punished him by banning him from royal functions for four months. A slap on the wrist compared to Harry’s exile.

King Juan Carlos I  Of Spain Shot His Brother

In 1956, King Juan Carlos I of Spain was toying with a .22 caliber gun that went off, resulting in the tragic death of his brother, Infante Alfonso. Vittorio Emanuele, Prince of Naples, told El País, that Juan Carlos “didn’t shoot him directly but through the closet. I was there. It was 100% an accident.”

The incident occurred in Portugal, and Juan Carlos was never tried for the death of his brother, whose body was not autopsied.

Royal News – Princess Caroline Of Monaco’s Privacy Battle

Princess Caroline of Monaco once pulled a Prince Harry by submitting a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights, stating that the media was not respecting her privacy. The Court disagreed with her argument and that ended her bid to lark about without paparazzi attention.

Royal Family News – Prince Albert Of Monaco Was Sued For Paternity

Caroline’s brother, Prince Albert of Monaco has also seen his share of legal woes. Albert has fathered plenty of “love children” although he recently did right by them by publicly acknowledging all of his illegitimate offspring.

But back in 1992, Tamara Rotolo filed a paternity claim against him in California but the state did not have the jurisdiction to require Albert to take a DNA test.

Albert eventually had a change of heart and 14 years later agreed to a voluntary DNA test which confirmed that Rotolo’s daughter, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, was his child.

It’s been reported that Albert has purchased Jazmin a glitzy New York apartment but there’s no word on how she feels about being rejected for most of her life.

Royal Family News – Prince Ernst Of Hanover Attacked Journalists

While Prince Albert’s lack of accountability is atrocious, Prince Ernst of Hanover has a reputation for being a louse who attacked paparazzi and urinated in public.

In 2001, Ernst was tried in a German court of law for causing bodily harm, exhibiting threatening behavior, and engaging in verbal abuse against four individuals. He was ordered to pay a $228,000 fine but as recently as 2023, Ernst was again in trouble with the law. Last year he was arrested on charges of property damage for breaking a window at the Duke of Cumberland Foundation.

Princess Anne’s Bad Dogs

Princess Anne is known as the hardest working UK royal but her dogs have gotten her in hot water. In 2002 her English bull terrier reportedly bit two children at Windsor Great Park and she was found guilty of violating the UK’s Dangerous Dog Act.

To her credit she pled guilty, making her the first senior UK royal to be convicted of a crime. Her brother, disgraced Prince Andrew, was accused of pedophilia but he settled the case against him out of court.
