Prince Harry And Meghan’s Trajectory Compared To Prince Edward And Wallis Simpson’s Failure

One gave up his throne to marry an American divorcée, the other gave up his senior royal duties so that he and his American wife Meghan Markle, who also happens to be a divorcée, can lead quiet lives in America.

The similarities on the surface level are clear, but is that the only reason royal experts are keen to compare Harry to his grand-uncle?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly failing at being the global leaders they set out to be. They’ve so far embarked on two so-called “faux royal” tours, and they’ve actively tried to be big players in the charity space.

However, royal expert Jan Moir believes the couple are not making as much of an impact as would sustain their brand in the years to come.

She said: “Despite their best efforts, Harry and Meghan are not Amal and George and they’re not Barack and Michelle. Increasingly and inescapably, perhaps even inevitably, the couple the Duke and Duchess of Sussex most resemble are Edward and Wallis Simpson.

The former Duke and Duchess of Windsor were another pair of royals in exile who failed to find meaning and traction in their post-monarchy lives.”

Ahead of Harry’s 40th birthday, Moir commented that the “cheeky charm that once endeared him to the world is rarely glimpsed these days. Often there is a touch of disdain in his blue-eyed gaze; sometimes he looks downright miserable. Perhaps he is thinking to himself, where did it all go wrong?”

On September 15, Harry will celebrate his 40th birthday, with fans reportedly speculating that he means to have a big bash to mark the milestone moment.

While Harry is not living in exile like Prince Edward – George VI threatened to cut off Edward’s allowance if he returned to the UK with Wallis – he’s currently estranged from the family, with sources reporting that he is no longer on speaking terms with his brother, Prince William.

However, it seems he still remains close to his mother’s relations, with an insider revealing that he was invited to spend Christmas with them.
