Prince Harry Loses Bid To Have ANL’s Defense Thrown Out. Judge has approved Mail on Sunday’s right to present the case that Harry attempted to mislead the public by using his team’s “masterclass of spin.”

Prince Harry May Have Been “Spinning” Falsehoods To Deceive The Public On His Intentions To Pay For His Security

The publishers of Mail on Sunday, Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL), have won the right to prove that Harry and his team tried to manipulate public opinion by claiming he offered to pay for security and was turned down.

Mr Justice Nicklin said that ANL has a “real prospect of demonstrating that an honest person could have held the view” that the 39-year-old’s team were “spinning” in a statement about his security.

The case came about as a result of a story the Mail on Sunday ran in February 2022. The report explained Harry’s dispute with the Home Office, which had to do with the removal of his security after he stepped down as a working member of the Royal Family.

At the time, the newspaper reported: “REVEALED: How Harry tried to keep his legal fight over bodyguards secret… then minutes after MoS broke story his PR machine tried to put positive spin on the dispute.”

In a written ruling, the judge proclaimed that ANL had a “real prospect of demonstrating” that “these suggestions were not accurate, or at least did not give the full story.”

ANL Insists That Their Claim Prince Harry and His Team Were Peddling Misinformation Was “An Honest Opinion”

Previously, the High Court agreed to the story that claimed the Duke was “responsible for public statements, issued on his behalf, which claimed that he was willing to pay for police protection in the UK, and that his legal challenge was to the Government’s refusal to permit him to do so.”

“Whereas the true position, as revealed in documents filed in the legal proceedings, was that he had only made the offer to pay after the proceedings had commenced.”

“As such,” the court heard, “the Duke of Sussex was responsible for attempting to mislead and confuse the public as to the true position, which was ironic given that he now held a public role in tackling “misinformation.”

Harry is arguing that the claim is libellous and hurts his standing as a person of integrity who wants to help stop misinformation online.

On the other hand, ANL argued that the article did not do any serious damage to his reputation and that it was “an honest opinion.”

Unless both sides reach an agreement, the trial will be going to court next year.
