Prince Harry & Meghan’s New Netflix Project Doomed?

Probably, you recently heard that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are working on a new collaboration with Netflix. The news is that it’s an adaptation of a fictional romance by Jasmine Guillory. However, not everyone believes it will ever happen. Read on to find out why.

A YouTube vlogger with over 50K followers, POV, expressed serious doubts about the show, or movie, whichever it turns out to be. Per Daily Mail UK, The Wedding Date collaboration with Netflix originally came as a book with six different series.

Well, on December 17, the POV vlogger in his critique. compared their recently announced project directly to a previous one that seemingly disappeared.

The main point of critique is, as POV noted, the new show seems to be “basically just Meet Me at the Lake 2.0”. Plus, he claimed that the new press release seems almost identical to the old one.

The First One Never Happened

Regarding the unproductive status of Meet Me at the Lake, the film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel was interesting. Especially, as some time ago, Netflix reportedly paid around $3 million for the rights to the book. Nevertheless, the project is still in early stages without a director, actors, or a shooting schedule.

The YouTube analysis drew attention to the almost identical nature of the two situations with Prince  Harry and Meghan Markle. “Both announcements talked about romance, emotional depth, and stories that impacted them personally,” POV’s narrator said. However, for the first project, “nothing happened.”

Two Projects That Go Nowhere?

Notably, it seems in line with various reports from the industry which signal that the initial deal might have been a tentative “shopping agreement” rather than a definite one to produce.

Presently, with the focus seemingly on The Wedding Date, the very same questions are being asked. The vlogger was very outspoken in saying that this new project would end up like their previous one.

He said, “Considering what has happened and the fact that Meet Me at the Lake and The Wedding Date have similar announcements, we can probably conclude The Wedding Date won’t see the light of day.”

In short, his argument noted a dominant theme: the cycle of highly publicized announcements that generate buzz but lead to little end result.

The narrative seemed to be that Meet Me at the Lake was meant to be the main production, and The Wedding Date is considered the next potential part of the story. Whether either of them will ever happen seems a bit debatable.
