British royal family news divulges that Prince Philip was never far from Queen Elizabeth during their 73-year marriage and even in death he is a presence who looms large. Today the palace announced that Her Majesty has planned a special tribute to honor the life and times of her late husband. It will take place in the spring of 2022, the same year as her Platinum Jubilee.
The gathering will take place at Westminster Abbey and will include, “family, friends, dignitaries and representatives of many charities and organizations with which the Duke of Edinburgh was associated,” according to the Daily Mail.
Additional details will be forthcoming but it is assumed that the service will likely be around the same time in spring as the passing of 99-year old year Philip on April 9, 2021.

The next steps include contacting organizations about plans for the service. A Buckingham Palace spokesman told MailOnline today, “The Queen has agreed that a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh will take place in the spring of 2022 at Westminster Abbey.”
At the current time Queen Elizabeth is facing the prospect of celebrating the holiday without her husband for the time in decades. She will also be at Windsor Castle instead of her Sandringham estate as is the family’s usual custom. The reason for that is the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has upended plans across the globe for a year in a row.
The Queen Will Celebrate Alone?
It has been announced that Prince Charles and Camilla will visit the queen on Christmas Day and it is thought that Prince Andrew and his former wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, and their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will also visit. The Earl and Countess of Wessex are also expected to see the queen on Christmas day, along with their children, James, Viscount Severn, and Lady Louise.
But her daughter Princess Anne cannot travel. Her husband has been diagnosed with Covid and the couple are in isolation.
