Prince William’s Plans For the Duchy Of Cornwall Revealed

Prince William waited for forty years of his life in order to finally take over his father’s role as the Duke of Cornwall. In addition to the new Cornwall title and estates, William has also taken up Charles’ Prince of Wales’ title, which the king had borne for over fifty years.

However, Prince William has been having grand plans for the Duchess Of Cornwall for a long time. Here’s how William can help the underprivileged after inheriting the vast estates and property.

Prince William Wants To Turn Royal Properties Into Shelter For Homeless People

Somebody’s mother would be glowing with pride wherever she is. From an early age, the late Princess Diana endeavored to introduce William to the sufferings of others who can’t afford to live like they do. The lessons have stayed with him, and he’s tried out various ways to help out homeless people – including selling The Big Issue on a sunny afternoon in London.

Even before he came to automatically inherit the estate, William has always been heavily involved in managing it.

However, he’s particularly looking for ways to provide much-needed shelter for the homeless – especially since the pandemic increased the number of people in the streets. “The Duke is interested in finding ways to help alleviate the homelessness situation in any way he can,” a royal source told The Telegraph.

Property owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, which was originally created 700 years ago by Edward III to provide funds for the heir to the throne, comprises of more than 13,000 acres of land in 23 counties.

At present, much of the estate is made up of farms and long-term housing options; the aim is to build around 4,000 homes on the land by 2043.

Prince William To Focus More On the Lands Located In Urban Areas

It is understood that Prince William will be focusing on properties owned in urban areas (for example, there are multiple Duchy of Cornwall buildings in London), as opposed to the farmlands.

The plans are still in the early stages, with many hurdles yet to be crossed before any official moves can be made.

One of William’s main focus as a royal is working to reduce, at the very least, the issue of homelessness across the UK.

In 2005, he became the patron of Centrepoint, a charity that offers housing and support for young people across the UK. He once slept outside in the streets in order to get a feel of how unfavorable the condition is.

In September 2021, William spoke at a ceremony for The Passage’s 40th anniversary. “Over the many years that I have visited The Passage, first with my mother when I was just a small boy, I have developed a great affection for everyone who is here,” he said in his speech.

“Every time I come here, I am touched by your warmth and friendliness, and the dignity and respect you show to every single person who comes through your door.”
