Princess Eugenie’s Father-In-law Misses His Grandson August’s Royal Christening By Mere Days

Princess Eugenie celebrated her firstborn child August’s christening ceremony on Sunday, November 21. A few days prior to the royal celebration, Eugenie’s father-in-law, George Brooksbank, passed away after “being ill for sometime.”

The PA announced the news that the father of Princess Eugenie’s husband of three years, Jack Brooksbank, died last week. It was reported that the man hadn’t fully recovered after battling with the coronavirus last year.

The Brooksbank family were told to “prepare for the worst” severally during his nine-week stay in the hospital. Out of the nine weeks, he spent the first five weeks on a ventilator, after he contracted the virus during his France trip, The Telegraph disclosed last year.

Following a tracheotomy, his condition began to improve. He gratefully thanked and praised the staff at both the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London and the Royal Brompton Hospital.

He added: “The point I really want to get across is that I think the NHS is absolutely magnificent,” said George, per The Telegraph. “The way I was treated was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble and at no point did I get a sense of a shortage of doctors or nurses or any impression that the service was in any way overwhelmed.”

He added, “I certainly owe them my life.”

In June 2020, the 31-year-old granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth shared a video on her personal page candidly thanking frontline workers, especially the staff who “saved my father in law George’s life during his stays at St Mary’s, Chelsea and Royal Brompton Hospital after he contracted the virus.”

“I can’t begin to express the thanks I have to you all for bringing him back to our family, my husband Jack, his brother Tom and his beloved wife Nicola. We are forever grateful,” the mom-of-one added.

On Sunday, Eugenie and Jack’s 9-month-old son, August, was baptized at All-Saints Chapel in Windsor Great Park in a rare joint christening with Zara and Mike’s 8-month-old son, Lucas.

George Brooksbank might have made the original scheduling for the christening ceremony, which was in July, had a positive coronavirus test in one of its attendees not delayed the plan.

The Queen quietly attended the ceremony despite health scares following her sprained back, which prevented her from attending Remembrance Sunday service a week before the christening.
