Queen Camilla’s Handshake Goes Viral: Here’s Why!

Royal family news reveals Queen Camilla recently went solo at Wimbledon. But the 75-year-old royal seemed to enjoy herself despite her husband King Charles’ absence. However, observers focused on her handshake.

Queen Camilla Sparks Stir Over Awkward Handshake

There’s the courtesy, the bow, and the handshake. And while Queen Camilla probably could teach exactly how to perform a bow or courtesy, her handshaking tactics at Wimbledon left onlookers questioning her methods.

The handshaking scene happened when Queen Camilla headed out to watch Wimbledon solo without King Charles, noted Hello magazine.

Her Majesty, 75, caused the handshake stir when she chatted with some of the ball girls at Wimbledon. And as one observer pointed out online, “Lol she can’t give a right handshake.” But another thought that what looked like a limp handshake might result from Camilla “always trying not to shake hands.” 

As a result of trying to avoid shaking hands, Queen Camilla has developed her own tactics. And one royal observer pointed out her scheme. “She greets people using [her] right hand,” shared the watcher. “But when she takes her hand to her hair, she changes the handbag and uses the clean left one. Very clever.”

Royal Family Reveals Handshake Rules

However, Camilla’s handshake challenges might result from her sister-in-law Princess Anne. Because royal rules changed, Anne tries to avoid shaking hands. “I mean we never shook hands,” shared Anne about her royal upbringing. And she explained the theory.

Because royal family members “couldn’t shake hands with everybody,” they agreed to avoid even trying to perform the formal greeting. And Anne stays with that guideline. “But I notice others don’t,” she admitted.

Meanwhile, while Camilla didn’t win any admirers for her handshake techniques, she did for her kindness to the ball boys and girls at Wimbledon. And Her Majesty praised, “You have to be very agile.” But she also joked, saying, ” I remember doing it 100 years ago at Queen’s (Club). It is quite difficult.” (Although it didn’t occur a century ago, Camilla did serve as a ball girl during her schoolgirl years.)

However, while Her Majesty scored in charming the ball girls and boys at Wimbledon, other members of the royal family enjoy playing the game. For instance, the Princess of Wales enjoyed playing with Wimbledon champion Roger Federer at The All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon. And Princess Kate’s son Prince George started his tennis lessons at age five. Prince William revamped their Norfolk home Anmer Hall’s tennis court with an AstroTurf surface to encourage his wife and son to enjoy the game.
