Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip Release Official Portrait for Philip’s 99th Birthday

Today we say Happy Birthday to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh who turns 99-years young! He is the longest serving royal consort and his wife, 94-year Queen Elizabeth, is the longest reigning living monarch in history. Prior to the big day this elegant and historic couple did what many husband and wives do to mark a momentous occasion, they posed for a special photograph.

The lovely portrait shows the elegant couple outdoors, with a pale blue sky in the background and manicured lawns behind them. Her Majesty is wearing a dress by Angela Kelly with a bright but understated design. The background is a light shade of blue and it has cheerful yellow flowers splashed across the front. On her left should is pinned the famous Cullinan V diamond brooch.

For his part Prince Philip looks dashing in a dark blue double breasted blazer with a light blue shirt and a Household Division tie.  His eyes are clear and steady and he looks ready to enjoy his big day.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are isolating at Windsor Castle

The beautiful portrait of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip was taken earlier this month on a clear day at Windsor Castle. The couple have been together at the castle for weeks now, isolating as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus pandemic.

Philip has only recently retired from performing public duties, in 2017. Will he ever change his mind and return to work?  According to royal watcher Katie Nicholl the prince will not come out of retirement as far as she knows.

Speaking to ET she said, “I think it’s a very unlikely thing that we see Prince Philip in the public eye. I think it’s very unlikely that we will see him in public. He’s in good health but he is obviously incredibly vulnerable, and he is in self-isolation with the queen, which I’m told they’re surrounded by a very small team of staff. Just a handful of staff between the two of them, which must be quite enjoyable for them not to have the formality of so many courtiers which is what the queen is used to when she’s at Buckingham Palace.”

According to multiple reports, Prince Philip has requested a low-key birthday day but no doubt he will receive video well wishes from his family.
