Queen Elizabeth reportedly doesn’t care about counting calories. However, her former chef Darren McGrady revealed that she does have one requirement when it comes to her meals. Keep reading to find out what it is and what else the chef had to say.
Royal Food Preferences
Everyone has different tastes, aversions, and foods they just can’t resist. Just because one is royalty doesn’t mean they are exempt. Queen Elizabeth loves to eat tasty meals, especially those that are rich in cream, butter, and fat. In a Delish YouTube video, the former royal chef explained what he learned while cooking for the queen.
“We could use as much cream and butter in the dishes as we wanted to and it just made them taste amazing. It really was traditional French cuisine.”
Calories Don’t Matter, But Taste Does
Everyone wants to eat food that tastes delicious and Queen Elizabeth is no exception. One would think she would be focused on strict dietary rules like a dish not exceeding a certain number of calories. However, it seems the queen doesn’t care about the calorie count. Just as long as the meal is tasty.
Queen Elizabeth’s Favorite Dish
One of Queen Elizabeth’s favorite meals is Gaelic Steak. It is usually made with beef tenderloin steaks. However, the Royal kitchen prefers to create the dish with venison that is hunted on her own land at Balmoral or Sandringham.
It is seasoned with salt and pepper, then it’s served over potato and parsnip mash. The topping is a cream-based sauce with onions and mushrooms. There is even a baby carrot garnish that makes the dish complete and fit for a queen.

Disciplined Sweet Tooth
Queen Elizabeth reportedly does have a sweet tooth and loves desserts. However, she also has a lot of self-discipline when it comes to sweet treats. Even if she received a large cake, the queen would only allow herself to have a small slice. If she wanted more, she would make herself wait until the next day.
It is a trait that always fascinated the chef — and perhaps something we all should do when tempted by tasty desserts!
