Queen Elizabeth Loved To Stroll Around Without Recognition
Former royal protection officer to Queen Elizabeth, Richard Griffin knows that Her Majesty possessed a delightful sense of humor. And as the country mourns the death of Her Majesty at 96, Griffin shared his own unique memories. One recollection of a joke has now gone viral. And the former royal protection officer explained that Queen Elizabeth staged the prank because she enjoyed strolling around without getting recognized, reported the Mirror.
Looking back at his adventures with Her Majesty, Griffin recalled how he once went for a walk with the Queen. As the two strolled around Balmoral Castle in Scotland, two American tourists encountered them. However, the two hikers did not recognize the Queen. At the time, Her Majesty wore casual tweeds and a headscarf, making her even more unrecognizable.

“There were two hikers coming towards us. And the Queen would always stop and say hello,” explained Griffin of her habits. “It was two Americans on a walking holiday. And it was clear they hadn’t recognized her, which was fine.” But what happened next turned into a hilarious scene.
Queen Elizabeth Told Tourists That She Had Never Met The Queen!
The royal officer recalled how one of the tourists asked Queen Elizabeth if she lived nearby. But rather than admit that she owned the castle, Queen Elizabeth staged her prank. “She said that she lived in London but had a house just over the hill,” recalled Griffin.
And the tourist asked Queen Elizabeth how often she visited the area. But although she still hid her identity, she admitted to visiting the castle for more than 80 years. As a result, the tourist said, “Well if you’ve been coming up here for 80 years, you must have met the Queen?” But Queen Elizabeth cleverly responded, “Well, I haven’t. But Dick here meets her regularly.”
When the tourist asked the royal protection officer to describe the Queen, Griffin relied on Queen Elizabeth’s sense of humor to pull his own prank. “So the guy asked me what she was like. And because I was with her a long time, I could pull her leg,” explained the officer.
Queen Elizabeth Posed For Photo With Tourists Who Never Knew Her Identity!
As a result of the tourists’ curiosity, Griffin teased Her Majesty by pretending someone else stood beside him. And he announced in front of Queen Elizabeth, “She could be very cantankerous at times. But she’s got a lovely sense of humor. Anyway the next thing I knew, this guy comes round, puts his arm around my shoulder, and before I could see what is happening, he gives his camera to the Queen and asks her to take a photo of us!”
After Queen Elizabeth took the photo, they all swapped places again. And Griffin photographed the tourists with Queen Elizabeth without ever telling them her identity. However, after they left, Her Majesty confessed that she would love to see what happened when someone identified her in the photos!
