Queen Elizabeth Yet To Make Final Decisions Regarding Hosting Christmas At Sandringham

Christmas at Sandringham last year was cancelled as a result of the pandemic. Christmas this year looks set to meet the same fate as the Omicron variant surges in the U.K.

Plans are fully in place for the festive lunch the monarch hosts every year for her extended family, and preparations are currently ongoing. But it is understood that the 95-year-old is having second thoughts about it.

The Sun newspaper reported that she is due to hold the lunch next Tuesday at Windsor Castle, where she has spent most of the year.

Most years, before departing for her annual Christmas stay at Sandringham, the Queen invites her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to join her at Buckingham Palace.

The government has also imposed new restrictions and warnings about social gatherings following the new wave of infections from the latest strain of the coronavirus.

Queen Reportedly Determined To Carry On with Her Annual Christmas Speech This Year

The Queen’s famous Christmas speech this year is on track. It will be her first Christmas without her husband in over seventy decades.

However, it is expected that her speech will reflect on the loss of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as the strength of the nation as it braces the new surge in the Omicron strain of the virus.

Palace aides are understood to be looking for ways to have the Queen wish the nation a happy Christmas over the next two weeks in person.

Her Majesty has only been carrying out light duties since October 20 when concerns for her health heightened, prompting her medical team to advise her to rest following her one night stay at the hospital undergoing tests.
