British royal family news reveals that some royal watchers have taken to comparing Meghan Markle the Duchess of Sussex with the late Princess Diana. It is an easy comparison on the surface as both brought turmoil and resentment to the royal fold, before leaving it all behind in an ish storm of anger and spite.

Had she lived, Princess Diana may have schooled her son’s wife, a feminist, biracial American divorcée, in the ways of the kingdom. If she were still alive would things have been different after Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding?

The world will never know. But the world has become enchanted with comparing the two women on the basis of their brash actions and wounded pride. They were both expected to modernize the centuries-old monarchy but instead brought it to its knees. That’s pretty much where the comparison ends. #1 Their Treatment By the Media

Even Prince Harry has jumped on the bandwagon by comparing how Meghan and Diana were received by the press: “My deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother, and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”

The difference is that Diana was a game-changer. Her death brought changes in the UK regarding how intrusive the media was allowed to get. They are still intrusive but it seems unlikely that a phalanx of speeding cars would chase Meghan in a Prius.

#2 How They Left Royal Life

Meghan and Diana both dragged the royal family while they were in it and even after. But the way they extricated themselves was royally different. In January of this year, Meghan and Harry dropped a huge and ugly bombshell announcing their intentions to leave their tormentors. Diana did no such thing. The Markle’s also have tried to eat their cake and have it too, being half in and half out, something Diana never tried to finagle.

#3 The Age Difference Is Everything

Lastly, age is a major difference between Diana who became a teen fiancé of Prince Charles who was man 12 years older than her. She had not graduated from college and went from being invisible to a player on the world stage.

In contrast, Meghan was a thirty-something B-list actress who was familiar with PR, swag, and striving when she met her prince. She had been in the public eye, dealt with the media, and been married and divorced.

There really is no comparison, is there?
