British royal family news reveals that Queen Elizabeth has just broken another record, after celebrating her Platinum Jubilee last week. The jubilee honored her 70 years on the throne, the longest for any British monarch. Now she has surpassed another monarch to reach yet another record.
Today Her Majesty became the world’s second longest reigning monarch.
The Queen Broke Another Record
The queen, 96, has supplanted Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who reigned for 70 years and 126 days between 1946 and 2016. Today she wins the title from him. And, earlier this month, the Queen surpassed Johan II of Liechtenstein, who reigned for 70 years and 91 days, until his death in February 1929.
According to the Daily Mail, Louis XIV of France is the world’s longest-reigning monarch. He held sway from 1643 until 1715, with a 72-year and 110-day reign.
Queen Elizabeth Is A Majestic Royal
Last Thursday through Sunday the nation celebrated her Platinum Jubilee which commemorated 70 years as the head of state. The four days were filled with parades, street parties, concerts, picnics, Trooping the Colour and a military flyover.
The official date of the milestone occurred on February 6. At that time she announced that she wishes Camilla, wife of Prince Charles, to be queen consort when the time comes. It was a historic announcement given that Camilla is the heir to the throne’s second wife. Camilla has had a rocky history with the British public, but with the queen’s announcement there is no seconding guessing Camilla’s place in history.
Queen Elizabeth Is Setting Records
Her post-jubilee statement said in part, “While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.” It was just revealed that, “the huge outpouring of thanks from the British public and from around the Commonwealth lefther ‘tearful and overwhelmed with emotion’ during the grand finale of the Jubilee celebrations last Sunday.”

This latest record can be added to the queen’s many other accolades, “including her title as the longest-living reigning monarch. Her Majesty became the longest-reigning British monarch in September 2015, surpassing her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria.”
