Royal Family News: Is Prince Charles Planning To Pass Throne To William?

British royal family news shows that the line of succession sees Prince Charles following his mother Queen Elizabeth on the throne, and Prince William later following Prince Charles. Some royal enthusiasts have floated the idea that Prince William should leapfrog his father leaving Charles out of the monarch equation altogether. How realistic is that?

Will William Leapfrog Charles?

Prince Charles is 72 and his mother is 95. She will celebrate 70 years on the throne next year with a Platinum Jubilee. It is hardly an inconsequential number that some favor William being installed as monarch when Her Majesty dies. The Prince of Wales is already the oldest heir apparent in British history. But according to royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti there is no valid reason for Charles not to have a turn at the position he has waited so long for.

He told Express.co.uk, “I don’t think there’s a strong argument for it and I think that Prince Charles will be a different kind of monarch to his mother and William will be a different kind of monarch to his father and grandmother. I think there is no chance that Prince Charles will be King for as long as his mother. It’s just statistically and mathematically impossible.”

When Will Charles Be King?

He went on to say, “It will be a very different reign in just that respect. But I don’t see why he should pass the crown downwards and I don’t think that would be desirable from anyone’s point of view. He’ll bring to the role his own agenda.”

“It’s not going to be a surprise when Charles is King that’s how they’ve been planning it for years. I’m sure they must have conversations amongst themselves about the wider agenda of the Royal Family and the short term aims of it.”

He thinks that Prince William and Charles have already talked of their respective reigns and it would be surprising if the talks had not intensified in recent days.

The Queen Had A Health Emergency

That’s because the queen had a recent health scare and she has been ordered by her doctors to take two weeks off of in-person royal duties.

But on the Royally Us podcast on Us Weekly, Stewart Pearce strayed from Sacerdoti’s sentiments: “We know the position he is about to inherit, it’s going to be very interesting to see if Prince Charles will sit in the throne or will he create some form of a shift in constitutional law to allow his son to sit in the throne. That’s going to be very interesting.”

“At the moment the right of ascendency is Charles on the throne but I don’t necessarily see Queen Camilla.” He added: “Constitutional law could be revoked and changed because after all we’re living in extraordinary times.”
