Royal Family News: Is Queen Elizabeth Signaling Her Abdication?

British royal family news shows that Queen Elizabeth is celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this year, a commemoration of 70 years as ruling monarch. She is 95-years old, was diagnosed with Covid on Sunday, and lost her husband last year. She and Prince Philip had been married for 73 years when he died at the age of 99.

Last fall her health came into question when it was reported that she was hospitalized overnight for unspecified tests and care. Yesterday her schedule of virtual events was cancelled for the foreseeable future. Given all of these setbacks, some royal experts think she may abdicate the throne to her heir and oldest son Prince Charles. And yet at least one royal watcher thinks that will never happen.

Royal expert and historian Ed Owens told The Express UK that he believes the queen will never step down. He said, “Abdication, due to the events of 1936, is considered a ‘bad word’ in the British Royal Family.”

He is referring to the sensational scandal that ensued when the queen’s uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated. Because of the past bruhaha, the expert thinks there will never be another abdication in the British royal family if it is at all possible.

He added, “I think it is highly unlikely unless a future monarch of Britain is physically unable to perform the role, hence abdication may be considered as an option.”
