Royal Family News: Kate Middleton Shocks Friends With Name Change Request!

British Royal family fans may think they know all about Kate Middleton and other members of The Firm, as the royal family is sometimes known. But a surprising new fact just got leaked about Kate’s past. Middleton reportedly stunned her friends prior to becoming engaged to Prince William by announcing a name change!

Kate Middleton Asked Pals To Refer To Her With New Name!

Soon after Prince William began dating Kate Middleton, she decided that she disliked her nickname, according to Cosmopolitan. As a result, the current Duchess of Cambridge reportedly emailed all of her closest friends. In that message, Middleton asked her pals to stop using her nickname of Kate and only call her Catherine, which is her official full name.

A royal family insider explained that at the time, Kate believed that her nickname seemed too informal. And even though the Duke of Cambridge had not yet officially proposed, Middleton may have had her eyes on the prize of becoming his wife! Her request to her friends occurred when Prince William’s proposal seemed like a “surefire certainty,” recalled royal family expert Adam Helliker. 

As a result of assumptions that William would ask Kate to marry him, the royal family insider described Middleton’s request to be called Catherine as one of the “intriguing signs that Kate Middleton is preparing for her future role.” At the time, Helliker shared that Middleton appeared to take preparation for becoming William’s wife “very seriously indeed too. I hear that in the past few weeks the former accessories buyer has quietly informed friends that she would like to drop the informal ‘Kate’ and in future wishes to be known by her full name ‘Catherine’.”

Apparently the request for a name change by the current Duchess of Cambridge stunned her friends. Those pals revealed that they knew Middleton had contemplated the potential for becoming Queen. But even though the friends understand that her name change from Kate to Catherine seemed more regal, they still felt “taken aback,” as one friend said.

“Everyone knows it’s about to happen with Kate and William, but we were a little surprised about the request to call her Catherine,” revealed one pal. “There is a distinct feeling she has started to become very aware of her position.” And that preparation and early awareness got rewarded when William proposed. 

So did the name change go into full effect? Well, not exactly. Both the press and the media tend to call the Duchess of Cambridge “Kate” rather than “Catherine.’ However, in her royal correspondence, Middleton reportedly uses the name Catherine. In addition, Prince William typically calls his wife Catherine in public.
