Royal Family News: Kate Middleton’s Family Has a History Of Rubbing Royal Elbows

British royal family news reveals the fact that in a picture from almost a century ago, the Queen’s aunt is seen as a guest of honor at a garden party in Leeds. The Roaring Twenties were in full swing and Princess Mary looked lovely in a silver-grey dress and pearls, a huge bouquet of flowers in her hands.

Given the stunning presentation by the princess, it is easy to overlook the historical significance of the people walking behind Princess Mary. In the background are three ancestors of future Queen Kate Middleton.

Royal Family News – Kate Middleton Has Royal Connections

Who are the lucky individuals in the picture? These people had no clue that 100 years later one of their relatives would one day be queen! The Duchess of Cambridge’s great-grandmother Olive Middleton is one of them, dressed fancily in a flapper dress and fur stole.

Hugh and Isabella Lupton were also present and they are Kate’s great-great-great-uncle and aunt. They are seen wearing the gold chains of the office of the Lord and Lady Mayoress of Leeds.

A fourth member of the family, Olive’s sister Anne Lupton, was also on the grounds according to a report in the Yorkshire Post of July 27, 1927.

Despite her royal connections, Kate is the first commoner in 350 years to marry a future King.

Royal Family News – Kate Is A Splendid Commoner

Her mother Carole is descended from coal miners who worked in County Durham. It is her father’s side of the family who was accustomed to being among royals.

His family was wool barons who interacted with Royalty since the days of Queen Victoria.

Kate’s great-grandmother Olive Lupton married solicitor Noel Middleton in 1914. Olive’s ancestors made their fortune in the wool trade that brought prosperity to West Yorkshire and their family seat was named Beechwood. It is an impressive Georgian mansion on a carriage lane on the outskirts of Leeds.

Kate was like her predecessors: privately educated, married into the aristocracy, attended Coronations, and was presented at Court.

Royal Family News – An Old Picture Reveals All

Michael Reed is the Australian historian who discovered the photograph. He said, “The parallels between Kate and the earlier Middletons are extraordinary.”

“The Middletons lived in an aristocratic world, were privately educated – some even went to Kate’s alma mater, Marlborough College – had cousins who were members of the peerage, lived in grand houses, and worked with Royalty on philanthropic causes, much as Kate does today.”
