Charles had planned to emulate his mother by following her tradition of marking her father, King George VI’s death at Balmoral, but instead chose to remain at Sandringham in Norfolk where the queen passed at the age of 96.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will remain at Sandringham for the time being, before returning to Balmoral, a neighboring estate.

One insider stated that the choice was likely due to the couple wanting to “be surrounded by so much that was familiar to her.”
