British royal family news reveals that the cat is out of the bag in regard to King Charles’s Coronation. He ascended the throne September 8 upon the passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth who reigned for 70 years.
According to The Mail on Sunday the coronation service takes place next year at Westminster Abbey. And it will bear the trademark “slimmed down” monarchy that Charles has become famous for.
King Charles will allow some pomp and circumstance but it will be a far cry from coronations past. The outlet reports that the plan in progress is known as Operation Golden Orb. Let’s unpack what this entails.
Royal Family News – The Coronation Ceremony Will Be Downsized
The ceremony is said to be one hour as opposed to the standard three. Additionally the guest list will be pared from around 8,000 to 2,000.
There may be a more relaxed dress code than in years past with peers not wearing ceremonial robes. Time wasters such as, “presenting the monarch with gold ingots – will be axed to save time.”
“The Queen’s Coronation was based largely on that of her father, King George VI, in 1937, which in turn was modelled on that of King George V in 1911.”
Royal Family News – Will Charles Pare Down His Coronation?
Palace insiders spill that the Duke of Norfolk is planning the coronation and has been asked to plan a, “simpler, shorter and more diverse ceremony that reflects modern Britain. The King has stripped back a lot of the Coronation in recognition that the world has changed in the past 70 years one well-placed source said last night.”

Which means that there will be MPs and peers who could miss out and the ceremony will, “be more religiously and culturally diverse. While the 1953 Coronation required the Queen to make various outfit changes, a source said King Charles is unlikely to do the same and the language will be adapted so as to be understandable to a more modern audience.” Really.
Royal Family News: Charles Will Not Make Wardrobe Changes
But there will be some familiar elements, with the 1762 Gold State Coach, which was refurbished at great expense for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, part of the Coronation procession.
