In a curious turn, Charles remarked that he wished to, “express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.” His nod to the son and DIL who turned their back on him and the monarchy was a surprising moment as both have continued a verbal vendetta against him and the rest of the family, going so far as to air their dirty laundry in an ugly Oprah Winfrey tell-all. The couple were not in attendance.

Charles continued in reference to his mother: “Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother. Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.”

Charles maintained a professional solemnity throughout his speech even as he remarked that “affection, admiration and respect,” for the popular Queen, “became the hallmark of her reign. And, as every member of my family can testify, she combined these qualities with warmth, humour and an unerring ability always to see the best in people.”

Significantly, Charles referred to his, “loving … wife Camilla,” and indicated that her loyalty was rewarded with the title of Queen Consort.

Royal Family News – King Charles Delivers Groundbreaking Speech

The address was shown on screens at St. Paul’s Cathedral, where later a service of reflection was held in which 2,000 members of the public were in attendance.

Prime Minister Liz Truss gave a reading at the service, and London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Labour leader Keir Starmer, Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng and Foreign Secretary James Cleverly were also in attendance.
