Royal Family News: King Charles Unleashes Giant Animal Topiaries At Sandringham, Oh My!

British royal family news shows that King Charles is flexing his environmental cred by redoing the garden at Sandringham, the locale of the clan’s annual Christmas bash. King Charles is recreating the space with a brand new topiary garden which will greet visitors at the entrance to the Norfolk estate.

Dirt is already being shoveled on the property’s West Lawn, which has been degraded due to weather and climate changes. When the project is complete the topiary garden will boast 5,139 Yew tree hedging plants alongside over 4,000 herbaceous perennial plants and flowers. Among the flowers are glorious yellow and pink rose varieties such as Gabriel Oak and Skylark.

Royal Family News – King Charles Loves Topiary

It’s not the first time that the regent has left his thumbprint on the environment as he also designed the gardens at Highgrove House. Based on past comments it may be that Charles is feeling nostalgic about his childhood and plans to bring back an old time vibe.

He once described his love for topiary with an anecdote: “There was the most wonderful topiary garden Queen Alexandra, my great-great-grandmother, had established,” he told The Times in 2019.

“I can still remember being taken as a child, being wheeled in my pram even, and it was so special, these clipped animal shapes, peacocks, birds, I’ve never forgotten it. I would say it had a profound influence on me.”

Royal Family News – Sandringham To Get Upgrade

The Sandringham estate issued a statement which read in part: “(The) topiary garden will include the introduction of new plants and flowers, a maze of new paths and the regrading and straightening of sloping banks.”

According to the People, increased rainfall had damaged the lawn and estate managers recommended plants that are, “more robust, hardy and better able to withstand the impact of emerging weather patterns.”The work is expected to be done in May, with King Charles’ coronation set for May 6.

Royal Family News – Sandringham To Receive Hardy Landscaping

Charles inherited Sandringham from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, 2022. The entire family descends upon Sandringham House for the holiday season and the queen remained each year until at least February 6th, the anniversary of the death of her beloved father George VI. This year Charles presided over the festivities which included the clan’s traditional walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church on Dec. 25.
