Who is the Duchess of Sussex? The royal title is used by Meghan Markle. It’s what she calls herself after ditching the monarchy and trash talking it like there’s no tomorrow. Meghan’s new child-based project follows her children’s book The Bench, which was called out as a “boring” vanity project unfit for kids and based on plagiarism. Surely she can do better the second time around?
Pearl Is Coming Soon
Archewell Productions belongs to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and it will produce the animated show.
According to Variety, the royal runaway is credited as the Duchess of Sussex in the release, and will executive produce Pearl (a working title) with actual producers David Furnish, Carolyn Soper, Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan. She has experience as a game show girl, so executive producer is the next logical step in the career ladder apparently, after marrying a prince.
Meghan Markle Keeps Reaching
Markle said in a statement, “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges. I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.”
For his part Furnish said, “I am delighted that we are finally able to announce this exciting animated series. Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex and I are deeply passionate about bringing the inspirational and positive stories of extraordinary women from around the world to a global audience of all ages. The team collaborating on the series are first class, and Netflix are the perfect partner.”
David Furnish Is A Real Producer
Last fall, the Meghan Markle’s signed an obscenely lucrative deal with Netflix to produce documentaries, feature films, scripted television shows and children’s series. Pearl is the first project to come to fruition, or rather, to be announced–let’s not put the horse before the cart.
According to Megan Casey, director of original animation at Netflix, “An exciting tale that weaves together fantasy and history, ‘Pearl’ focuses on a young girl who learns to step into her own power when she embarks on a heroic adventure and meets important women from history along the way. We’re excited to develop this animated series with our partners at Archewell Productions and Story Syndicate.”
So many people sound so excited at the prospect of working with the Markle’s on Pearl, fingers crossed they get exactly what they deserve.
