Royal Family News: Meghan Markle Is Fearful Of Losing Her Duchess Title

Meghan Markle was bestowed with the title when she married Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in 2018. In January 2020, the couple announced their desire to step down as senior royals and leave the U.K., quoting at the time that “service is universal” and affirming that they will always uphold the Queen’s important work. The couple first moved to Canada during their transition phase, before finally settling in Montecito California, and making a name for themselves there.

They have quite a lot of work engagements on their plate: Prince Harry is working on his successful mental health docuseries The Me You Can’t See – which he co-created with Oprah Winfrey – and Meghan Markle has her first children’s book The Bench to promote. Together, the couple founded the Archewell Foundation and they’ve snatched deals with Spotify and Netflix.

According to an insider, Meghan Markle is determined to retain her Duchess title because she believes it could be a “PR” disaster if she loses it. Despite not being a working member of the royal family for the last 15 months, the former “Suits” actress still continues to use her unique title in all her platforms, from public appearances to her personal pursuits.

Her children’s book The Bench acknowledges her as the author with the title “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex” and it’s not hard to see that the prestigious title is an advantage for the Sussexes.

But with Prince Harry’s numerous attacks on the royal family in his mental health series, a source revealed that Meghan is actually worried about losing the title because of Harry’s latest “truth bombs”.

“She’s told Harry that they need to tone down the attacks on the royal family – she’s afraid they’ll take away their royal titles, which would be a PR disaster,” the Insider said. “Right now, she’s inundated with offers, and that’s in part to being a Duchess.”

Prince Harry has caused a stir for the royal family in his appearances in the AppleTV+ series The Me You Can’t See, and while the royal family remains silent in the face of these attacks, Meghan is alarmed that the “racist firm that traps people” will actually strip them of their titles, which they’ve publicly disclosed that they hate or don’t care much for.

Weeks after the Sussexes announced their desire to step down from their position as senior royals, Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the news. It further made it clear that Harry and Meghan have decided to step down from their roles, adding that they will no longer have the right to use the titles His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness, but they were allowed to retain their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.

To clear up the rumors about what the separation will involve, the message read: “With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations.”

“While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty,” the statement continued. “The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”
