British royal family news reveals a lawsuit was brought against Prince Andrew, Duke of York, this week in New York. The suit was brought by Virginia Giuffre and in it she alleges that she was, “sexually abused by the senior royal when she was 17,” according to CNN.
Now come reports that the royal family is hunkered down at Balmoral Castle, as is the usual tradition in summer. But reports indicate that the royals are not just on summer vacation, they are dealing with what has been termed “crisis talks.”
Royal Family News – The Royal Family Must Figure Things Out
Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s claims were made years ago but the lawsuit is a new development. Andrew is ninth in line to the British throne, and the suit seeks monetary damages. Some experts are convinced that a settlement would put a serious ding in the coffers, not to mention a hit to the monarchy’s reputation. But to date Andrew’s legal team has declined to comment as has Buckingham Palace.
CNN historian and royal expert Kate Williams points out that the family have been sued before. “Prince Charles was sued by a law student in 1978 following an appearance in Ohio. The student sued for alleged deprivation of “various rights guaranteed by the (US) Constitution,” (though the case did not progress). And in 2002, Princess Anne became the first member of the royal family to be convicted of a criminal offense, pleading guilty to a charge when her dog bit two children in a park. But those cases pale in comparison with allegations of sexual assault of a minor.”
Royal Family News – Will Andrew Address His Lawsuit?
The lawsuit is part of a wider matter, that of Andrew’s relationship to the dead, convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. In 2019 he told the BBC in response to Giuffre’s allegations, “it never happened.”
Far from putting out the flames of speculation, Prince Andrew’s interview seemed to make matters worse, certainly for him. Afterward the queen stripped him of his working royal status and he is virtually nonexistent on the family’s social media accounts.
At the time, Prince Andrew spun the actions by saying he was stepping back, “for the foreseeable future,” and promised, “to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.”

Royal Family News – Will Prince Andrew Cooperate With The FBI?
But, “Officials investigating the alleged sex ring once operated by Epstein and his associates … say otherwise. In January 2020, the then-US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey Berman, called out the prince, saying he had ‘provided zero cooperation.’ Giuffre’s lawyers also say Andrew’s legal team have been “stonewalling” their efforts for information over the past year, leaving litigation the only course of action – which brings us to where we are today.”
