British royal family news shows that yesterday Prince Andrew’s legal team demanded a jury trial in his sex abuse allegation case set to be heard this fall in NYC. Now pundits are predicting that the stunning decision is a strategy meant to force a settlement.

Today legal experts are weighing in on the possibility that Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, is using the ploy to entice the plaintiff, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, to accept a settlement. Whatever the trajectory of the case, it could be argued there is no outcome that can be considered a good look for Andrew, short of absolute exoneration.

After a judge refused Andrew’s request earlier this month to have the case tossed out, his mother Queen Elizabeth stripped him of his military roles and stated he would face the case as a private citizen.

Now that Prince Andrew has chosen to face off in court, he faces the possibility of an uncomfortable cross-examination, “by one of America’s most feared trial lawyers, with embarrassing questions on everything from his sex life and ‘private parts’ to what he has told his mother,” according to the Daily Mail.

Prior to the latest development, media lawyer Mark Stephens commented that the lawsuit could cast a shadow on Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, gong so far as to say that it has the extreme potential to bring down the monarchy.

Stephens did acknowledge that the bold decision to force a trial jury, “could be a final piece of ‘classic brinkmanship’ to force down the reputed £10million settlement he may have to offer to Miss Roberts, who now uses her married name Giuffre. He also speculated on whether the duke is ‘bluffing’ and may still settle to avoid damaging the standing of the monarchy.”

He said, “I think he’s buying time for settlement. David Boies wants to get to the Queen’s money, which won’t happen. But we are just 10 days from Ascension Day and the beginning of the Platinum Jubilee.”

Royal Family News – Andrew Is Betting On Public Opinion?

Another lawyer, Kate MacNab, toldMailOnline: “It may seem like an odd route to take – betting on public opinion – after his performance on Newsnight, but perhaps he is just biding his time?”

She refers to Prince Andrew’s disastrous attempt to clear his name during a train wreck BBC interview.

She added, “Perhaps by agreeing to her initial wish of having a jury trial, he is wanting to position himself as having nothing to hide? Perhaps this will force an out-of-court settlement? All of this is speculation of course, but nothing would surprise me at this stage.”
