Royal Family News: Charles And Camilla Make Soap Cameo, Join BBC’s EastEnders To Celebrate the Queen's Platinum JubileeBritish royal family news shows that figures from two iconic British institutions have together and fans of the monarchy and EastEnders will be delighted! In an exciting trailer released today, Prince Charles and Camilla are seen making a cameo appearance in the beloved BBC sudser. The guest spot coincides with and celebrates Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee. In the trailer the Prince of Wales and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall play themselves and show up in Albert Square as “mystery guests” at a street party commemorating the Queen’s magnificent 70 year reign.

Royal Family News – Real Royalty Meets Soap Royalty

In a very fitting meet up, the royals are greeted by Albert Square royalty Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) and his wife Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). Fans see the car carrying Charles and Camilla pull up to the square with cheerful residents saying, “You have got to come and see this. These mystery guests.” Mick previously told residents, “that special guests will be in attendance but the partygoers will be left in shock when … greeted by the royals in the June 2 episode.”

Royal Family News – Danny Dyer Is Leaving Walford

As the characters meet the royals loud cheers break out and smiles and laughs fill the scene. It was thought there would be a scene with Charles entering the legendary Old Vic only to be greeted by Mick. According to The Sun, Mick says, “Welcome to your great-great-great-grandmother’s boozer.”

The long-running BBC soap opera has had extensive renovations done to the sets and the scenes were filmed back in March when the future king and queen consort visited the new Elstree set and met the cast and crew. In the trailer, the couple can be seen chatting with some of the show’s most famous cast members including Natalie Cassidy who said, “It was a very special day for all at EastEnders. As a company we are all incredibly proud of the show we make but to have a visit from the Royal family makes it all the more special.”

“To have the opportunity to mark the Queen’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee with a visit from The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall was just beautiful and it will go down in EastEnders history.” She added, “But it was made all the more special for me when The Prince of Wales handed me his coat to keep me warm – what a gentleman, what a couple, what as we say in EastEnders a proper family.”

Kellie said of greeting the prince and his wife, “I did think what amazing sports that they are just willing to do it. I just thought, ‘Wow, they’ve never done anything like this before’. They didn’t really know what to expect, I mean it must have been nerve-wracking for them and completely out of their norm.”

“So I just hope they enjoyed it as much as we did.”

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw said of the royal visit, “We are truly honored to have both the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall appear in what is set to be one of EastEnders’ most special episodes.”

“Linda Carter is naturally in her element and giddy with excitement as their Royal Highnesses arrive in Walford, but it wasn’t just her, as for all of us at EastEnders it was an extremely special day that will go down in EastEnders’ history.”

Fun Fact: In 2001 the Queen visited soap vet Dame Barbara Windsor, who played Peggy Mitchell, on the EastEnders set.
