Prince Charles told the show that he spoke to his father the day before he died and mentioned planning the patriarch’s 100th birthday celebrations. Philip was a no-nonsense kind of man and it was widely reported that he was not looking forward to the fuss that would be made over him when he turned 100.

In the touching interview Charles verified that his father had mixed feelings about the day he would mark a century of life on this earth.

According to him he spoke to the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor on April 8. At that time he brought up talk of a party to mark his centenary in June.

Royal Family News – What Did Philip Think Of His 100th Birthday?

Prince Charles told his father, “We’re talking about your birthday.” He was a bit leery of the topic, knowing how his father felt about big celebrations. Philip was hard of hearing, so Charles repeated himself practically shouting, “We’re talking about your birthday! And whether there’s going to be reception!”

Philip was having none of it and shot back, “Well, I’ve got to be alive for it, haven’t I?”

“I knew you’d say that!,” Charles exclaimed.

Royal Family News – Philip Died At Age 99

Philip’s pithy comment captured his sharp wit and is just of many reminisces that will be aired in the BBC One which will air on Wednesday night. The tribute titled, Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, was originally planned as a birthday tribute but after Philip died the show was reworked into a memoriam.

The tribute features Philip’s four children and his adult grandchildren. The family members are said to share their fondest memories of the man who was married to Queen Elizabeth for 73 years before his death on April 9 at the age of 99.

In another funny reminiscence, Prince William talks about being with Philip on the Balmoral estate when the elder stopped the car to talk to a group of walkers. William recalled, “He stopped and wound down his window and said, ‘Good morning. How are you getting on?’ To which the smallest young chap at the back turned round and effectively said, ‘Jog on Grandpa!’” Philip simply rolled the window back up and told William, “The youth of today!”

    I think him being next king is a big mistake…the way he treated Diana was atrocious! And making Camilla a Queen figure is disgusting . All that time cheating with him behind Diana’s back.
    William and Kate are the future of what England needs.
