Royal Family News: Prince Harry And Meghan Defied Prince Philip Over Family Last Name

Harry And MeghanBritish royal family news shows that at the beginning of their marriage, Queen Elizabeth and her late husband Prince Philip did not see eye to eye over the family’s last name. The issue resurfaced when Prince Harry and Meghan used “Mountbatten-Windsor” for their son Archie and daughter, Lilibet.

Royal Family News – The Name Game Caused A Fuss

Prince Harry and Markle named their eldest child, son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, and their second child, a daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. What is wrong with that? Usually, royal offspring use their parents’ titles like their last names. This is the case with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children.

Their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, use “Cambridge” as their surname.

Back in the day when Philip married then-Princess Elizabeth, his official title was Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Say that five times really fast!

Royal Family News – The Name Game By The Markle’s

Philip eventually abandoned that mouthful for the name of one of his grandparents, “Mountbatten.” At the time pundits including Winston Churchill and Queen Mary, wanted Elizabeth to keep the surname “Windsor” and not adopt her husband’s surname.

She took her mother’s advice which made Prince Philip angry because their first two children Prince Charles and Princess Anne, didn’t take his last name.

Prince Philip allegedly said, “I am nothing but a bloody amoeba. I am the only man in the country not allowed to give his name to his own children.”

Royal Family News – The Name Game Is Important

Prince Andrew was born in 1960 and there was a royal compromise: “The Queen went to Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and announced that their second son would be given the double-barrelled surname Mountbatten-Windsor, which was what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used for their children, Archie and Lilibet.”

Why did the Markles choose to go with the name they did? Why do they do anything? Harry played more name games when he claimed that he named his daughter Lilibet after Elizabeth, but she will be known as Lili. Go figure.

Shakespeare famously asked what is in a name, and apparently for the royals, a name is everything, as is a proper title to go with it. Just ask Archie’s mom.

Once you leave the Royal Family, nobody cares anymore! Think Edward VIII, he chose to leave. Don't whine because you had a terrible life as a Royal when people are starving and you don't have enough "security" to go to the UK!!
