Royal Family News: Prince Harry Could Take Advantage Of “Loophole”

British royal family news reveals that Prince Harry, as a British citizen, is only entitled to stay in the US for 182 days in any 12-month period if he has a visa. Without one, he can stay for up to 90 days. The Duke of Sussex, as he prefers to be called, has been in California since March 2020.

Now experts are predicting he could use medical exemptions to stay in the United States with his family.

On top of that, a foreign national who spends 183 days or more in the US is supposed to pay taxes and it’s thought that Harry has not even applied for an American passport.

Tax and immigration advisor David Lesperance suggested Harry could use a loophole in the US visa rules, an exception introduced in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, to remain in the country for an extended period of time.

He told The Express, “There are certain exceptions to counting days, such as if you commute from a contiguous territory such as Canada.”

He added, “There’s also ones for medical exemptions — if you take ill in the US and you spend the day in the hospital, well, that day does not count.”

He said individuals could claim they “didn’t intend” to be in the US and were there for medical reasons, plus the coronavirus pandemic adds a complication to the situation.

“Clearly if you catch COVID and you get a doctor’s report, but even if you’ve had COVID is there a test available to you?” he added.

Then again, we all know Harry’s situation does not fall into that boat.

“I would suspect that Harry could probably find a doctor somewhere who could give him a test,” he noted.

Does Harry have COVID-19? That’s hard to say although Prince Charles, and reportedly Prince William, were diagnosed with the virus.

It is speculated that Harry will return to the UK this year in order to be at any number of royal celebrations including the 95th birthday of Queen Elizabeth and the 100th birthday of Prince Philip. It is already being reported that his wife Meghan Markle may chose to remain at home with their son Archie.

The pair stepped down as senior royals in January 2020.
