Royal Family News: Prince Harry Snubbed By Royals For Princess Diana’s Landmine Work?

Prince HarryBritish royal family news reveals that Caroline Fiennes, the founder of Giving Evidence, a group that seeks to improve the effectiveness of charitable giving by encouraging and enabling giving based on evidence, is speaking out about an apparent snub of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.

She discussed royal patronages on the Abolish the Monarchy podcast when she revealed that the Fresh Prince of Montecito has not been listed as a patron for the Halo Trust on his page on the Royal Family website.

According to Fiennes she is not an anti-monarchist and was simply just reporting the findings of her research into royal patronages, then went on to add that she is not a fan of the way royal patronages are listed on the royal website.

Fiennes said, “The lists are just incomplete, for example, Prince Harry is a patron of the Halo Trust and has been since 2013. But that is not on the list of his patronages on the royal website.”

Why is this significant? For one, she noted, “That is the charity for which his mother walked through that minefield in Angola. So it is really high-profile, so it is a surprise.”

The Halo Trust website itself acknowledges Harry as a sponsor: “We were proud to welcome Prince Harry to our programme in Angola. He visited the first minefield being cleared as part of our groundbreaking project to protect the precious Okavango headwaters in the southeast of the country.”

“The Duke then returned to Huambo and the area where his mother walked through a HALO minefield in 1997.”

The Halo Trust’s website also has this to say about Princess Diana: “The landmine issue shot to international prominence in 1997 when Princess Diana walked through one of HALO’s minefields in Angola. Shortly after her visit, the Ottawa Mine Ban Treaty was signed, calling for all countries to unite to rid the world of landmines.” n January 1997 Princess Diana across a minefield in central Angola.”

It explains that, “Following in Princess Diana’s footsteps, the Duke has drawn the world’s attention to landmines—the unhealed scars of war—and called on international support to ensure that we do not turn our backs on the 60 million people around the world still living in fear of these weapons of war, ensuring his mother’s legacy lives on.”
