Royal Family News: The Wales’

Prince William proposed to Princess Kate while they were vacationing in Kenya in October 2010 and their engagement was announced on November 16, 2010.

William told ITV of his grand ask “It was about three weeks ago while on holiday in Kenya, we had a little private time away together with some friends and I just decided that it was the right time really.

We’ve been talking about marriage for a while so it wasn’t a massively big surprise but I took her up somewhere nice and proposed – it was very romantic.”

Prince William knew Kate was the right one because he “had been carrying around his mother’s famous sapphire engagement ring in his backpack for three weeks beforehand.”

The legendary ring is a 12-carat Ceylon sapphire with 14 solitaire diamonds set in white gold. In some ways this gem is priceless but when it was created in 1981 it cost £28,500.

Royal Family News: Prince Charles and Diana

William waited years to propose to Kate but Prince Charles proposed to the late Princess Diana after just six months, and they had only been together 13 times. Charles was 32 and Diana was still a teenager at 19-years-old. He popped the question at the Windsor Castle nursery in 1981.

Andrew Morton wrote about the event dishing that “Charles didn’t even get down on one knee” and “Diana thought it was a joke … The Prince was deadly serious, emphasising the earnestness of his proposal by reminding her that one day she would be Queen.” Tragically that day never happened as the couple divorced in 1996 and she passed away in 1997. Charles is now married to Camilla Parker Bowles.

Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth II And Prince Philip

There is some discrepancy about exactly when Charles’ parents, the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, became engaged.

The news was announced on July 9, 1947 but it’s been reported that Philip proposed in the summer of 1946, while they were at Balmoral, Scotland. It’s said that her father, King George VI gave his daughter permission to marry the Navy Officer in April 1947.

What’s not in question however is the bling that Philip gave his fiancé: He used diamonds that date back to the Romanovs.
