Royal Family News: Prince Harry’s Mental Health Series “Another Blow For The Royal Family”

Prince Harry, 36, has steadily been in the spotlight these recent times, hugely because of his work promoting mental health and creating worldwide awareness for it. In his docuseries that he co-created with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his struggles with mental anxiety and how that affected his mindset for a long time until his then-girlfriend Meghan Markle urged him to seek the help of a therapist. He admits that four years later, he’s still seeing a therapist and working every day to heal.

Harry almost did not hold back in the five-part docuseries that will explore mental struggles for different people all over the world. He practically told the world that his father Prince Charles did not raise him right, and instead of shielding him from the pain of royal life, advised him to “play the game”. He also talked about his pains remembering how his mother suffered at the hands of the media and how those people did not pay for causing her death. He further revealed the reasons why he and his wife Meghan Markle had to step down as senior royals and move away to America to start a new and different life.

Royal Family News – Historian Stands by Harry’s AppleTV+ Mental Health Series

Prince Harry, amongst many critics, has found a supporter in royal historian Robert Lacey.

“The world is a better place for what Harry has done,” Robert Lacey shares with PEOPLE for their latest issue. “But this is another blow for the British crown and royal family.”

British journalist and mental health advocate Bryony Gordon believe that Harry’s openness about his mental health struggles will help break the shame barrier formerly built around mental illness.

“This is a man who, at the age of 12, was sent out to walk behind his mother’s coffin and console the masses outside Kensington Palace,” she says. “I just don’t understand why we’re now angry with him that that might have affected him.”

Prince Harry’s Description Of His Father’s Silence Regarding The Hardships Of Royal Life

Prince Harry first discussed the hardships of royal life when he revealed that he felt sorry for his family members who were still “trapped” within the institution in his first big interview after his publicized exit from the royal family.

“My father used to say to me when I was younger, ‘Well, it was like that for me, so it’s going to be like that for you,'” Harry said in the mental health series. “That doesn’t make sense — just because you suffered, that doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact, quite the opposite. If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences that you had, you can make it right for your kids.”

His statements, though being about his mental health and helping others understand that it’s not a thing of shame to acknowledge their struggles, have also targeted the royal family and their “ways of life”.

A royal insider once commented about Harry targeting his family in his media appearances, advising him that “to continue to target your family leaves little room for reconciliation.”

But Harry feels that it’s his duty to speak out about his struggles and against the kind of upbringing he had. “It’s my responsibility,” Harry says, “my duty, to break that cycle.”
