British royal family news divulges that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passed away at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle. He had previously been hospitalized for a month and was recently discharged and allowed to return home.
The nation is in mourning for a formal period of eight days and his funeral will be held next Saturday. Ironically Philip was a man who disdained pomp and circumstance, at least when it came to himself. His family and the nation were prepared to fete him with lavish excess this June for his 100th birthday. It was not meant to be.

Many are now curious as to how the larger than life, and notoriously private man, went about his daily routine. In 2003 Philip’s typical day was exposed by a reporter who finagled his way into the palace under the pretense of accepting a job as a footman.
How did Philip go about his day to day life? It might surprise you to know that life in Philip’s gilded cage was surprisingly, dare we say it, normal.
According to reports, both Queen Elizabeth and Philip were creatures of habit and they began each day with simple, ordinary details such as listening to the radio and feeding the dogs.

Breakfast was served at 8.30 am with Philip enjoying a cup of coffee and a shower, while the Queen preferred Earl Grey tea and a bath.
After breakfast, the Queen would be briefed by her aides and the duke would carry out solo visits or support the Queen at her public appearances.
High tea was served at the palace at 5 pm and included sandwiches, scones and Dundee cake. When it was just the queen and Philip for dinner they dined in comfortable clothes and ate together.
When he imbibed, he preferred a lager over wine with lunch and he was known to enjoy grilling on the barbecue.

Royal Family News: Prince Philip Had One Food Rule
Philip turned 90 in 2011 and that year he undertook nearly 350 royal engagements, while the Queen did 370. But he still wasn’t done with the life of duty he signed up for.
In 2016 he celebrated his 95th birthday by keeping 219 royal engagements. In May 2017, it was announced that he was retiring from public duties later that year. In his later years, he loved to spend time at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk where he would read, paint and meet with friends.
By all accounts Prince Philip was an extraordinary man who nonetheless enjoyed the simple pleasures of an ordinary life.
