Royal Family News: Queen Declares Her Wish For Camilla To Be Queen Consort

British royal family news shows that Queen Elizabeth has made it known that she wants Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall to be crowned Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes King. Camilla is Charles’ second wife and Charles is the queen’s heir, and until today it was up in the air as to what title she would take when the time comes.

The Queen issued a statement the day before her Platinum Jubilee that it was her, “sincere wish,” for her daughter-in-law to be fully acknowledged when Charles succeeds her according to the Daily Mail.

The Queen Makes A Decree

The Queen issued the message in anticipation of her Platinum Jubilee on Sunday, January 6. In so doing she makes her support for her heir and his wife known after years of uncertainty. The Platinum Jubilee commemorates 70 years on the throne.

Royal experts also read into the statement that Her Majesty has no plans to abdicate, as she reiterated her Coronation pledge, telling the public, “my life will always be devoted to your service.” The message to the UK was signed, “Your Servant, Elizabeth R.”

It read: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Prince Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

Who Would Argue With The Queen?

Clarence House responded afterward that, “Charles and Camilla were touched and honored by the Queen’s gesture.” On Sunday Charles will make a public declaration in honor of his mother’s Jubilee.

A spokesman for the couple said, “The Prince of Wales will be issuing a statement of congratulation to the Queen on Accession Day. He and the Duchess of Cornwall are touched and honoured by Her Majesty’s words.”

The Queen Makes Her Feelings Known

Until the queen’s statement, it was thought that Camilla would be known as Princess Consort. That is because when Charles and Camilla’s engagement was announced in February 2005 a Palace statement read: “It is intended that Mrs Parker Bowles should use the title HRH The Princess Consort when The Prince of Wales accedes to the Throne.”
