Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth Cancels Christmas

British royal family news reveals that Queen Elizabeth has canceled the royal family’s Sandringham estate Christmas gathering for the second year in a row. The cancellations both came out of an abundance of caution owing to the rampant Covid-19 pandemic.

This year the omicron variant of Covid-19 is on the rise and experts are advising that gatherings be kept small if held at all.

According to the BBC News, Buckingham Palace said that the cancellation of the Sandringham House party was a personal decision made by the queen and is being taken as a, “precautionary approach.”

It was reported in the past that both Prince William and Prince Charles were infected with the virus and recovered.

Royal Family News – The Queen Is The Boss

What happens next? It’s believed the queen will remain at Windsor Castle over Christmas and the plans of the other royals have not been divulged according to Good Morning America.

A source from Buckingham Palace told Good Morning America that family members are expected to visit Windsor over the Christmas holiday, “and all appropriate guidelines will be followed.”

This week’s cancellation news follows last week’s cancellation of Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas Lunch at Buckingham Palace. That is a yearly tradition and dozens of relatives are invited. It, too, was cancelled due to omicron concerns.

Royal Family News – No Royal Lunch This Year

The queen’s husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, died in April at the age of 99. This will be her first Christmas holiday without him and it is not known how she will celebrate if a lockdown is put into effect.

The omicron variant has taken over in the United Kingdom in the past week. Daily case rates have soared before the holidays and last week, Prime Minister Boriroyals Johnson warned Britons of a, “tidal wave of omicron.” He also told people to get a booster shot.

Omicron is Expanding

At this time France has restricted travel from Great Britain due to the country’s COVID-19 surge. At least one person in the United Kingdom has died of the new omicron variant.

Last week the family gathered for a festive holiday concert hosted by Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. Perhaps that will have to make do as the royals’ holiday gathering for this year.
