Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth Destined To Be “Last Queen Of England?”

British royal family news reveals that there may never be another queen of England after Queen Elizabeth’s reign is over. At the very least, according to one royal watcher, it will be a very long time until there is another female monarch. At worst, the end of Elizabeth’s reign could mean the end of, “the whole history of queens in England.”

Royal author Clive Irving pointed out that Queen Elizabeth’s immediate successors are male which means there won’t be a female monarch in the UK until the end of Prince George’s reign at the earliest.

Irving wrote The Last Queen and he told Australia’s Today Extra, “She’s one of three outstanding figures in history who were Queens. It’s a very emotional idea, I think. The whole history of queens in England will end with this one.”

He has made this comment before, in his book The Last Queen. There he wrote, “Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning monarch in British history and will likely be the last queen of England.”

Royal Family News – Could It Be That Queen Elizabeth is the Last Queen of England?

Irving thinks that there could be another reason in play to suspect there will not be another female monarch. According to him, the younger generation are questioning whether there should even be a monarchy at all.

An a YouGov survey done last December shows his assumption to be correct. The finding revealed that those aged between 18 to 24 prefer an elected head of state more than the older generations.

In contrast, among people aged from 25 to 49, 24 percent were in favor of republicanism while 62 percent favored the Crown.

Of those polled aged between 50 and 64, 20 percent wanted an elected head of state while 72 percent desired to see the Royal Family leading the country.

It was only the age group 64 and up that overwhelmingly wanted a monarchy. Irving’s words come as the Queen is about to enter her 70th year as monarch. She ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, following the early death of her father King George VI.

At that time she was then travelling on a whirlwind tour with Prince Philip, and quickly returned to begin her new role after a period of mourning.
