British royal family news reveals that Queen Elizabeth offered up a radiant Christmas message for everyone who “just wants a hug” this holiday season. She made it a point to say, “You are not alone, and let me assure you of my thoughts and prayers.”
She also promised “light and hope” will be forthcoming as embodied in the birth of Christ as she delivered a Christmas message during an unprecedented pandemic.
Queen Elizabeth Wished Everyone A Hug This Season
Her speech paid tribute to the NHS as it included video of workers taking part in the Clap for our Carers. The event happened each Thursday during the first lockdown.
This year Her Majesty endured her share of turmoil with her son Prince Charles and her grandson Prince William both contracting Covid. She also saw the bitter exit of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they declared their distaste for royal life and fled to the US.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pointedly not featured in the photo and video that the queen showed during her speech. No doubt this will provoke some sort of response from the pair who willingly and seemingly with delight, ditched The Firm.
The Queen Showed Major Events From The Royal Year As She Gave Her Annual Speech
This year she had just one family photograph on display and that was of her 99-year old husband, Prince Philip; Both are self-isolating at Windsor.
In 2019 her speech included photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Philip and Charles and Camilla but no trace of Harry and Meghan.
Some royal watchers declared this a snub of the couple who professed the need to get far, far away from his family, others simply suggested it was a nothing more than part of a plan to present a “slimmed-down” royal family ,one of Prince Charles’ aims.
As she spoke to those across the Commonwealth the Queen tribute to the heroes of the coronavirus pandemic and she highlighted the efforts of Captain Sir Tom Moore. His fundraising efforts saw him knighted and she remarked about how, “Good Samaritans have emerged across society,” as the crisis took its toll.
Due to the unprecedented pandemic she made sure to praise emergency and charity workers, including the men and women of the NHS, who keep the legacy of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale alive. As the queen said, “Every year we herald the coming of Christmas by turning on the lights. And light does more than create a festive mood – light brings hope.”
“This year, we celebrated International Nurses’ Day, on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. As with other nursing pioneers like Mary Seacole, Florence Nightingale shone a lamp of hope across the world.”
